Jen Larsen is the author of the critically acclaimed memoir Stranger Here
: How Weight Loss Surgery Transformed My Body and Messed with My Head (Seal Press, 2013), which PEOPLE magazine called "honest, brave and sparklingly funny." Her young adult novel, Future Perfect
(Harper Teen, 2015), body-tackles some of those same self image issues head-on. It was featured on NPR Book Concierge's "Best Books of 2015," as "a gorgeous, fiercely moving debut," and Kirkus hailed the novel as "an absorbing look at the cultural obsession with women’s weight and how much energy and effort it takes to live an authentic life on one’s own terms."
She has an MFA in creative writing from the University of San Francisco and currently lives in Minneapolis, MN. For two years Larsen was the featured blogger at Condé Nast's Elastic Waist. Her columns have also been syndicated on Yahoo!'s Shine Network for Women. She was a contributor to Big Fat Deal, a blog about weight in media and popular culture, and her work has appeared in Strange Horizons, Word Riot, Emprise Review, and South Loop Review, among other publications. She was also a subject of the Oprah Winfrey Network TV show In Deep Shift with Jonas Elrod.
